DRDO’s makeshift Covid hospital to be ready by April 30
LUCKNOW: Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) 500-bedded temporary Covid 19 hospital at Awadh Shilp Gram would be operational by April 30, stated the tweet of defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday.
“Work is in full swing to establish a Covid facility in Lucknow that would become operational in the next 5 to 6 days. This hospital would be run by AFMS in coordination with UP Government,’--reads the tweet of defence minister on Saturday.
DRDO officials said the work of the makeshift Covid hospital was on at a fast pace. “So far around 70 percent work has been completed that includes laying of oxygen pipelines, setting up hangars and other logistics,” said Dr Narendra Kumar Arya, director, Directorate of Public Interface (DPI).
Arya said of the total 450 beds, 150 beds would serve as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and would be equipped with ventilators, liquid oxygen connectivity and other life-saving logistics. The others will be regular beds.
“It will be as per WHO guidelines. We are specialised in setting up ICU beds. Every bed will be ICU bed, well equipped with oxygen supply. The hospital would be centrally air-conditioned, the air would enter from one side and be released from the other end,” Arya added.
He said the hospital would be similar to what DRDO established in Delhi and Patna in times of pandemic.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh’s Lok Sabha representative, Diwakar Tripathi said that temporary Covid hospital would be a boon in treating Covid 19 patients.
