PRAYAGRAJ: Amid the unprecedented rise in Covid cases in city when the district administration trying its best to provide health facilities to people, the authorities of North Central Railway (NCR) too have pulled up their socks to help the district administration.

Allahabad division of NCR has once again prepared isolation coaches and the same are in ready condition parked at Subedarganj junction. Presently, the rake (one coach) can accommodate 640 corona patients and they are waiting request from the administration, say officials.

During the first wave of coronavirus last year, the government had asked railways to convert its coaches into isolation wards. Following the instructions, Allahabad division of the NCR had prepared 40 such isolation coaches. However, in due course of time when the cases came down, the requirement of these coaches was forgotten.

“Each coach has eight cabins (wards) and there is a storeroom for paramedical staff and the cabin for the attending staff. Besides neat and clean beds, place to keep oxygen cylinder, water bottle etc have all been made in these wards. Every cabin has a separate dustbin and the windows have mosquito nets. These coaches will be attached with a hospital,” said chief public relations officer (CPRO), NCR, Ajeet Kumar Singh.

Last year, after the Railway Board asked all the zones to convert coaches into isolation wards, the three divisions of NCR too had prepared these coaches in their workshop. The workshop of Jhansi had prepared 50 coaches, Prayagraj division 40 and 20 each in Jhansi and Agra division.
