PRAYAGRAJ : With the Sangam city witnessing heart-breaking scenes on roads and in front of hospitals due to lack of oxygen for corona patients, a city-based businessman has come forward to help hospitals and common man with the vital need of oxygen.

A former student of Allahabad University, Umesh Jaiswal, has decided to install an oxygen plant in an area of over 7400 square meters in Sector 3 of Naini Industrial Area.

The plant, with the daily production capacity of 1100 cylinders, has adopted three government hospitals of the city wherein it would provide free of cost oxygen to these hospitals on the daily need basis.

He is into business of construction of roads and presently his company, is constructing parts of some important national highways connecting the Sangam city to different neighbouring districts.

“Since I have a separate set of business, never in my wildest dream had I thought of putting up an oxygen plant but while reading about the recent deaths in the district because of shortage of oxygen on the day of Ramnavami, I came across the news about the Varanasi-based industrialist RK Chaudhary installing an oxygen plant. Then and there, I also decided to initiate something of this kind for Prayagraj,” said Jaiswal.

He further added that initially his plan was to setup a small industry but some of his close friends and advisors suggested that if he wanted to serve the society, the project should be larger.

“The next day I spoke to SSP, Prayagraj, Sarvashresth Tripathi who helped me meet the divisional commissioner Sanjay Goyal who forwarded my proposal the same day to the authorities concerned. The DM gave his approval and now all the paper formalities have been done and I have given order to a Gujarat -based company for installing the state’s maiden automatic oxygen synthesis plant where both, liquid oxygen and its gaseous form, will be manufactured simultaneously,” he said.

This would be second such plant in the country, the first having been installed at Godhra by the same company which would be installing this Naini based plant, informed Jaiswal who belongs to Babuganj area of Phulpur development block of Prayagaraj. Jaiswal has adopted three government hospitals of the city, namely Tej Bahadir Sapru (Beli) Hospital, Dufferin Hospital and Colvin hospital, and would be giving free Oxygen to them, lifelong.

The plant, being constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore, would be spread in an area of over 7400 square meters at Sector 3 of Saraswati Hightech city, Naini, and the registry of the land would be done in a couple of days.

The industry would produce 1100 oxygen cylinders per day and if needed, this could go up to 1500 cylinders per day. The production is expected to start from August, this year.
