PM holds high-level Cabinet meet on Covid-19 jabs, drugs

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a meeting with his top Cabinet colleagues to review the progress of ongoing Covid-19 vaccinatio­n, availabili­ty of drugs such as remdesivir, and to discuss the scaling up of vaccine production.

“Citizens should be facilitate­d for vaccinatio­n despite lockdowns and healthcare workers involved in vaccinatio­n must not be diverted for other duties,” Modi directed officials at the meeting, according to an official statement.

Modi was also informed about the vaccine wastage across the country.

Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Harsh Vardhan, Piyush Goyal, Mansukh Mandaviya attended the meeting.

Modi called for ensuring quick and holistic containmen­t measures to prevent the further spread of the virus in the country.

NEW DELHI: Amid rising concerns over vaccine and medicine shortage in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a high-level meeting with his top cabinet colleagues to review the progress of ongoing vaccinatio­n & the availabili­ty of Covid related medicines like Remedesivi­r in the country. He also took stock of the scaling up the production of vaccines in India over the next few months.

“Citizens should be facilitate­d for vaccinatio­n despite lockdowns and healthcare workers involved in vaccinatio­n must not be diverted for other duties” PM directed the officials, according to an official statement, while he was also informed about the vaccine wastage across many states in the country.

“As many as over 170 million vaccines have been supplied to the states in the country and almost 31% of eligible population over the age of 45 has been given at least one dose of the Covid vaccine” officials informed the Prime Minister on Thursday.

Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Piyush Goyal, Mansukh Mandaviya were present at the meeting along with the other top officials of the government.

At the meeting, the PM also discussed the need to ensure quick & holistic containmen­t measures to prevent the further spread of the virus in the country. After being apprised about the 12 states which have more than 1 lakh active cases, PM said that states should be given help & guidance about leading indicators to ramp up healthcare infrastruc­ture.

Noting the advisory to the districts where bed occupancy is more than 60%, PM said that states should ensure that the speed of the vaccinatio­n does not decrease.

Yesterday, the PM had appreciate­d the Kerala government’s efforts for reducing vaccine wastage in the state. Quoting the tweet of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, PM had said that efforts to reduce vaccine wastage were important in strengthen­ing India’s fight against Covid-19.
