Ex-MS of SSL writes to President Kovind, demands V-C for BHU
VARANASI : The chief medical officer and former medical superintendent of Sir Sundar Lal Hospital, IMS-BHU, OP Upadhyay, has written to President Ram Nath Kovind, demanding the appointment of a vice-chancellor at BHU.
“Revered Sir, I crave for your immediate intervention to save our great university by expediting the appointment of an able Vice Chancellor at the BHU,” reads the letter.
Through the letter, Upadhyay alleged that there had been serious negligence in the treatment of several Covid-19 patients, who were admitted in the super specialty block of Sir Sundar Lal (SSL) Hospital. Till a week ago, relatives of many patients used to complain about negligence daily. Upadhyaya said that even the district administration failed to get cooperation from SSL Hospital. Thereafter, the district administration sent a report to the ministry of health and PMO. Thereafter, the medical superintendent of SSL, SK Mathur, was removed and a new medical superintendent was appointed.
Upadhyay said that in view of the present circumstances, an able vice-chancellor should be appointed at BHU as early as possible for the smooth functioning of the university.
Meanwhile, the BHU public relations office said that the best possible care is being given to patients admitted to the super specialty block of Sir Sundar Lal, Hospital, a Level 3 hospital.
The tenure of Rakesh Bhatnagar as vice-chancellor of BHU ended on March 28. Thereafter,
VK Shukla was made acting vicechancellor.
ABVP writes to Prez
The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) wing of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has written a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind demanding appointment of a full-time vice chancellor in the central university. Prof Vijay Kumar Shukla was appointed the acting vice chancellor of BHU after prof Rakesh Bhatnagar’s term as VC expired on March 28 this year.
ABVP, UP secretary, Sakshi (she goes by one name) said as the Banaras Hindu University Act, 1915, entitled the President of India to appoint the vice chancellor of the university, ABVP’s BHU wing had written a letter to him in this regard.
