VARANASI : The chief medical officer and former medical superintendent of Sir Sundar Lal Hospital, IMS-BHU, OP Upadhyay, has written to President Ram Nath Kovind, demanding the appointment of a vice-chancellor at BHU.

“Revered Sir, I crave for your immediate intervention to save our great university by expediting the appointment of an able Vice Chancellor at the BHU,” reads the letter.

Through the letter, Upadhyay alleged that there had been serious negligence in the treatment of several Covid-19 patients, who were admitted in the super specialty block of Sir Sundar Lal (SSL) Hospital. Till a week ago, relatives of many patients used to complain about negligence daily. Upadhyaya said that even the district administration failed to get cooperation from SSL Hospital. Thereafter, the district administration sent a report to the ministry of health and PMO. Thereafter, the medical superintendent of SSL, SK Mathur, was removed and a new medical superintendent was appointed.

Upadhyay said that in view of the present circumstances, an able vice-chancellor should be appointed at BHU as early as possible for the smooth functioning of the university.

Meanwhile, the BHU public relations office said that the best possible care is being given to patients admitted to the super specialty block of Sir Sundar Lal, Hospital, a Level 3 hospital.

The tenure of Rakesh Bhatnagar as vice-chancellor of BHU ended on March 28. Thereafter,

VK Shukla was made acting vicechancellor.
