Big fillip to sports infrastructure at MMM stadium on the cards
PRAYAGRAJ : In an effort to give an impetus to sports facilities under the Smart City initiative, proper facilities for 14 sports will come up at Madan Mohan Malviya (MMM) Stadium soon, say officials.
“These facilities would be developed at a cost of around Rs 7.86 crore. A tender has already been issued in this regard,” they add.
“Under the Smart City project, we aim to provide world class facilities at Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium. With these new facilities, we are confident that sportspersons from this region would be able to improve their performances and earn laurels for the state and the country in coming days,” said divisional commissioner Sanjay Goyal, who is also the chairman of Prayagraj Smart City Ltd, while confirming the move.
A wrestling zone, separate synthetic basketball, volleyball and handball courts besides a cricket net practice court and a kho-kho court have been planned under the initiative.
Likewise, the stadium, located within the Chandra Shekhar Azad Park premises, would also soon have shotput throwing circles, combined discuss and hammer throw cage, synthetic athletic track inside the stadium besides green, orange and red lawn tennis courts along with badminton courts and a wrestling ground as well.
Besides, proper entry-exit gates, pathway for unobstructed movement throughout the zone, internal pathway connecting the courts as well as elevated decks to accommodate spectators and to direct the people flow from one space to the next would also be provided.
A fitness area to encourage yoga activities, renovation of the existing stadium besides handball court, natural and brick drains to protect the synthetic and other courts from waterlogging during the rainy season among others too are part of the plan.
The firm that would be awarded the work of developing these sports infrastructure would also maintain them for five years under the clause of operations and maintenance services of the project.
