AU sends details of its courses to UGC
PRAYAGRAJ: : Allahabad University (AU) has sent details of all courses being offered by it on its campus to University Grants Commission (UGC) raising hopes of an entrance exam for these courses being conducted soon.
National Testing Agency (NTA) is scheduled to conduct the entrance exam of all central universities for the first time and the details of courses sent by AU to UGC is in line with this very plan. Although a formal announcement is yet to be made by the UGC, possibility is that the common entrance test would be for the undergraduate courses.
“UGC had sought information regarding various subjects and courses being taught in the university. The admission process may be conducted through the common entrance test by the NTA. However, no decision has been taken regarding the date of the test or other modalities”, said AU public relation officer, Jaya Kapoor.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is widely expected to conduct the common entrance examination for the new academic session 2021-22. This examination is to be conducted on the lines of medical and engineering entrance exams. Central merit of the entrance exam will be prepared and sent to universities. If the admissions for academic session 2021-22 are held through NTA, this would be a new beginning for AU as till last year, AU used to conduct its own entrance test following which admission at AU’s main campus and constituent colleges was done.
Last month, UGC had sought information from all the central universities regarding the subjects and courses being taught by respective universities. The same set of information was sought from AU too, share officials. On Monday, a virtual meeting of all the vice-chancellors was also proposed to be held with Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’. The meeting was however adjourned for some reasons, they added.
