3,957 fresh Covid cases in UP, recovery rate improves to 94.7%

UP sees 163 deaths in 24 hours, taking the fatality count to 19,519

LUCKNOW : The state government on Tuesday claimed that the 3-T strategy (test, track and treat), partial corona curfew and vaccinatio­n drive led to the decline in Covid cases and improvemen­t in recovery rate to 94.7%.

The booking of slots for vaccinatio­n of beneficiar­ies in 18-45 age group in 52 districts will commence on Sunday (May 30) and people can get the jabs from June 1. The vaccinatio­n drive for the 18-45 age group was continuing in 23 districts.

On the directions of the chief minister, the state health department had increased sample testing in 75 districts while an intensive sanitation drive was launched in villages. Besides, medical kits were being distribute­d by village surveillan­ce committees, said Navneet Sehgal, additional chief secretary, informatio­n.

During the last 24 hours, 3,957 fresh Covid cases were reported in the state. The highest number of cases (254) was reported from Varanasi, followed by Saharanpur 219, Lucknow 207, Meerut 178, Bulandis shahr 164, Muzaffarna­gar and Ghaziabad 145 each, Gautam Buddh Nagar 137 and Ghazipur 111, according to the data released by the state government.

In 11 districts, the case count was in single digits. Among the 69,828 active cases in the state, 42,653 people were in home isolation and the remaining in hospitals. UP saw 163 deaths in 24 hours, taking the fatality count to 19,519. Lucknow reported the highest number (9) followed by Jhansi and Saharanpur 8 each, Meerut, Gorakhpur and Bareilly 7 each, Kanpur, Mathura and Etawah 6 each, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Moradabad, Agra, Shahjahanp­ur and Mainpuri 5 each according to the data.

Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said 10,441 people recovered during the 24 hours, pushing the recovery tally to 15,88,161.
