FIVE MORE DIE, ALIGARH HOOCH TRAGEDY TOLL 93

AGRA : With the death of five more people, the toll in Aligarh hooch tragedy has risen to over 90. Those who died on Thursday include three brick kiln labourers who consumed liquor found in a canal. The others died during treatment after being admitted to last week.

“It appears that those who had spurious liquor wanted to get rid of it in view of police action. So they dumped the boxes of liquor bottles in a canal near a village within Jawan police station limits of Aligarh,” said Aligarh SSP Kalanidhi Nathani after visiting the spot.

“There is a brick kiln about 1.5 kilometres away from the canal and one of the labourer found these boxes. He brought it to the brick kiln and distribute­d it among other labourers who consumed it on Wednesday evening,” said the SSP.

“Those who consumed liquor complained of deteriorat­ion in health on Wednesday night and were rushed to hospital in Aligarh city on Thursday morning but three of them died,” he said.

District magistrate Chandra Bhushan Singh also confirmed that three labourers of a brick kiln had died on Thursday after consuming spurious liquor found in canal near a village under Jawan police station of Aligarh.

Those dead include a couple as both husband and wife from Bihar died on Thursday. It is feared that the death toll in the hooch tragedy has risen to 93.

The number of deaths has steadily been rising in this hooch tragedy which took place on Friday last.
