BEHAVE WELL WITH PUBLIC OR FACE ACTION: CP WARNS COPS
VARANASI: Commissioner of police (CP) A Satish Ganesh on Sunday asked cops not to misbehave with public or harass anyone without any reason while implementing Covid restrictions.
“If any cop misbehaves with public or beats anyone without any reason, he will be punished. Behave well with public. We are here to serve the citizens and we stand by our resolve,” Ganesh said while chairing a crime meeting with senior police officials here. The meeting was attended by deputy commissioner of police (DCPs,) assistant commissioners of police (ACPs), all station house officers (SHOs) and other senior officials. It was held to discuss effective crime control in every police station area of Varanasi commissionerate, and also review the functioning of the cops deployed in different police stations.
The CP expressed anger over a recent incident in which a cop was found misbehaving with traders in Pahadia Mandi area. Soon after the incident, he had suspended the cop. “Such an incident should not happen in future,” Ganesh warned officials.
He instructed that FIR should be registered in matters related to crime against woman and necessary action should be taken immediately in such cases. “Each DCP has been asked for effective prosecution of 10 cases of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO). Likewise, ADCPs and ACPs have been instructed to do effective prosecution of seven and five cases of POCSO respectively,” the CP added. Ganesh said that he would do effective prosecution in four cases of POCSO so that the victims might get justice at the earliest. He also said that each police outpost in charge has been given a target to arrest one criminal within certain duration.
