Junior docs, MBBS students stage protest against rape allegations by patient’s kin

-

PRAYAGRAJ: Junior resident doctors and MBBS students of MLN Medical College took out a candle march on MG road of the city, on Monday. They were agitated over allegation levelled on the doctors and other medical staff by relatives of a female patient who was recently operated in the SRN hospital.

“It is an irony that a female patient levels false allegation on treating doctors and certain people are staging dharna in the city against us despite the fact that the inquiry committee set up by the medical college administration has found the entire allegation to be baseless”, said one of the members of junior doctors’ association of SRN Hospital, who was part of Monday protest.

The protest march started from the main gates of SRNH and ended at Medical college crossing on the MG road. The protesting doctors were holding candles and placards in the hands expressing their anger over the “false allegations” levelled against their fraternity.

A girl hailing from Mirzapur was admitted to SRN hospital on

May 29 with intestine problem. The doctors operated on her on May 31. The patient’s brother later claimed that his 20–yearold cousin sister was sexually assaulted while undergoing the operation.

Following the charges, probe committee was set up by MLN Medical College of which SRN Hospital is associated with and CMO after the youth’s video went viral in which he had made the allegations. The five-member panel of doctors, set up by medical college comprised of Dr Vatsala

Mishra, Dr Ajay Kumar, Dr Arvind Gupta, Dr Amrita Chaurasia and Dr Archana Kaul to look into the allegations.

The panel constituted by SRNH administration in its report ruled out any sexual assault on the patient. Medical College Principal Dr SP Singh said, “The preparations, prior to starting the surgery, may have led to misunderstanding. The committee questioned all doctors and medical staff present during the operation and found that the allegations do not hold any ground”. The MLN Medical College administration also said that four women doctors and a female nurse were present during the operation. And the door of the OT where the surgery was performed was made of transparent glass.

However, Samajwadi Party leader Richa Singh on Sunday staged a dharna outside IG Range office in protest of alleged gang rape of a patient who was admitted to SRN hospital and demanded action. On Monday too, she met the IG over the same issue.
