AU mulls plan to implement NEP on campus
PRAYAGRAJ: Preparations have been intensified to implement several provisions of the new National Education Policy (NEP) by 2023 on the campus of Allahabad University (AU).
Among several changes aimed at the overall welfare of the students, the new education policy would let a student pursue a four-year graduation course and then take admission in PhD directly by appearing in an entrance exam.
This and many other issues relating to NEP were discussed at a virtual meeting chaired by AU vice-chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava, on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by all the deans and heads of departments. During this meeting, which lasted for around two hours, discussions were held on various issues, and it was agreed to prepare an action plan for the future to implement the NEP provisions on the campus.
The VC directed all heads of the departments to prepare the syllabus of their respective subjects as per courses in the next 15 days according to the new NEP. There will be a meeting again on this subject on June 25, informed varsity officials.
The meeting also discussed the implementation of four-year undergraduate courses. The VC said that the education of many students stops after graduation, and they are unable to go for research. After the implementation of the new national education policy, any student after the four-year undergraduate course would be able to take admission in PhD directly after qualifying an entrance examination.
“Decisions were also taken on many other issues in the meeting. She has emphasized on introducing new courses with good employability opportunities. The four-year UG courses were also discussed in detail,” said AU’s assistant public relation officer, Chittaranjan Kumar.
Another benefit that would be extended to students after implementing the new NEP is that all UG students of courses like BA, BCom and BSc would be able to take National Cadet Corps (NCC) as an optional subject.
In this regard, the VC has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Prof PK Ghosh. This committee will decide on how to implement NCC in the curriculum.
ANOTHER BENEFIT: AFTER THE NEP IS IMPLEMENTED ALL UG STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE NCC AS OPTIONAL SUBJECT.
