Monsoon resumes in central Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW : After a brief gap of two days, monsoon rains resumed in central and western parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, according to Indian Meteorolog­ical Department data. Over two dozen districts in central Uttar Pradesh, including some parts of state capital, received scattered rainfall.

The state recorded a total of 4.7mm rainfall on June 17 which was 41% more than the normal rainfall of 3.3 mm.

Most of the rains were recorded in the last 24 hours.

“Uttar Pradesh recorded 84.6 mm rainfall this month which is 159% more than normal 32.7 mm rainfall expected during this period,” said director of state MeT department JP Gupta.

Reportedly 46 of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh recorded large excess rainfall in the last 24 hours caused by the monsoon.

Nine districts received excess, nine districts recorded normal rains and 6 districts received slightly deficient rainfall during the period.

“The number of districts recording large excess rainfall has gone up from 35 to 46 since the start of this month. This means that the state has received ample rains so far in the current monsoon season,” informed Gupta. As per IMD forecast, the state is expected to receive more rains in coming days.

“The rainfall will be scattered across the state. However, districts bordering Nepal in east UP will receive above average rainfall ,” said Gupta.

The state government has alerted the district administra­tions, advising them to take measures to prevent damage caused by heavy rain. In districts prone to flooding, , teams of district and state disaster management committees have been put on standby. Acting on the warning, more than 300 flood relief outposts have been setup in 14 districts of east UP.
