LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday asked for adoption of a village-cluster system for Covid vaccination in rural Uttar Pradesh.

“Make different clusters of revenue villages in each development block and saturate a cluster with vaccination within a week, telling the dates of vaccination to villagers in advance. Three days before the vaccination day, run awareness camps in the villages, taking along village head, teachers and ASHA workers. On vaccination days, the villages must have ambulances and quick response teams (in case anyone needs care after vaccination),” he said at the Covid-19 review meeting with Team-9. Yogi said now the time was favourable for speeding up the vaccination drive as the Covid virus had weakened and the infection rate was the bare minimum.

Yogi said now the time was favourable for speeding up the vaccination drive as the Covid virus had weakened and the infection rate was the bare minimum.

The vaccination drive would get a boost as from Monday the central government would provide vaccines free of cost (to the states) for vaccinating the 18+ age group.

“Considering the central government’s free vaccines for 18+, make preparations accordingly for effective implementation of the scheme. Now, make preparations with an aim to administer six lakh doses each day and then ramp it up to 10-12 doses each day from July 1. Increase both the number of vaccination centres and vaccinations to achieve the targets”, he said.

The chief minister said that the Covid infection rate was under control in the state and currently UP had only 4,957 active cases.

“Maharashtra has daily cases equal to the total active cases in UP. In June the positivity rate in UP was 0.3%.

In the past 24 hours, only 294 cases were diagnosed positive against the total 2.73 lakh people tested during the same period.

The positivity rate in the past 24 hours was a mere 0.1% and recovery rate has now touched 98.4%,” he said.
