PMC to hire consultant to tone up working, planning and monitoring
PRAYAGRAJ: : Gearing up to match rising expectations of the Sangam city that’s on way to become a smart city, Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) is aspiring to become more efficient, effective and productive. It has now decided to engage a consultant for better planning, monitoring and performance improvement on a priority.
The move is also aimed at helping undertake an unbiased review of its functioning and identify areas that need improvement with help of the hired agency, said a PMC official.
“The municipal corporation has already issued a tender in this regard to start a formal search for a consultant. We hope to complete the selection process and appoint one within the next two months,” said PK Mishra, PMC senior official and its public relation officer. PMC officials said that the chosen consultant would basically be performing four major tasks: Monitor the PMC’s progress, suggest steps for performance improvement, make better coordination and stakeholder management, besides undertaking other tasks.
The hired firm would consolidate and compile a master-list of all ongoing activities in consultation with PMC and review their progress against agreed milestones after a thorough study of the agreements signed with vendors, and then design a format for status update report in consultation with the PMC officials and compile the first status report. Besides reviewing resource planning and allocation requirements for the projects, the firm would also highlight deviations, risks and challenges observed while reviewing the projects and identify mitigation plan wherever feasible. It would also define a cycle for conducting periodic reviews, undertake reviews and prepare regular reports for PMC, the officials explained. “The consultant firm will also envision, conceptualise and facilitate implementation of new activities and interventions which are in sync with PMC’s objectives. These will include preparing plans for local area improvements, enhancing the scope of existing projects with respect to performance improvement, environmental sustainability, socio-cultural aspects and also help PMC enhance the potential of asset monetisation,” said a senior official, who is privy to the development.
