Sangam city waterlogged after 24 hours of heavy showers
PRAYAGRAJ : Heavy intermittent rains since Friday has thrown life out of gear in Sangam city with several localities and important roads remaining submerged under knee-deep water for long hours damaging property and causing traffic snarls.
According to the weather station of Indian Air Force, the city received 54.3 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours (Friday evening to Saturday evening). Of this, the city received 43.9 mm of rainfall just on Saturday. The maximum temperature of the city was 27.6 and minimum was 25.4 degrees Celsius. Likewise, maximum relative humidity was 100%. Because of the incessant rains, several by-lanes of localities, including Allahapur, Tagore Town, Allopibagh, George Town, Medical College crossing, city side of Allahabad Junction, Leader road, Nakhaskhona, Baigan Toula, Niranjan railway under bridge, Rani Mandi, Attarsuiya etc remained waterlogged for several hours. Rainwater entered several houses of these areas damaging property. Locals blamed laxity on part of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) for waterlogging issues.
Weather expert have forecast no immediate respite from rains.
“For the next 48 hours, the city would receive light to heavy rainfall as this is the first phase of monsoon which is usually strong and loaded with water content,” said prof AR Siddique, head of the department of AU’s Geography department.
