‘Galwan Victory Wall’ unveiled at New Cantt in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: : A ‘Galwan Victory Wall’, built in honour of the 20 brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the clash with the Chinese troops in Galwan valley on the intervenin­g night of June 15-16 last year, was opened for public at Cariappa road in the New Cantonment area of Sangam city, on Tuesday. The memorial, having busts of 20 brave Indian soldiers, was inaugurate­d by Rekha Singh, wife of Veer Chakra awardee Naik Deepak Singh, who was among the Indian soldiers killed in the clash.

Spread in an area of 1500 square foot and located in front of the main gate of the Sub Area, UP and MP, the memorial has 20 busts each measuring three feet and placed on a platform of around five feet high. Each copper coated bust is made of fibre and mentions the name, unit and rank/post of each brave soldiers and the background shows the deeds of brave soldiers.

In order to inculcate patriotism among the countrymen, especially the youth, this gallery has been built.

The gallery was completed in about a year’s time under the supervisio­n of Major General IM Lamba, GOC, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Sub Area. Lt Gen S Mohan GOC, Central Command and other officers of the Army were present during the inaugurati­on ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by representa­tives of 16 Bihar, 3 Medium Regiment and 81 Field Regiment to honour their brave comrades. Rekha Singh, wife of Naik Deepak Singh was also present as the guest of honour. Deepak Singh was son of farmer Giriraj Singh and hailed from Parenda village of Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh.

He was from Army Medical Corps (AMC) and was posted with 16 Bihar as nursing assistant (NA). He was awarded Veer Chakra posthumous­ly.

The 20 brave soldiers were led by Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu who was awarded with Mahavir Chakra posthumous­ly. Five other Galwan braveheart­s, including Nb Sub Nuduram Soren, Hav K Palani, Nk Deepak Singh, Sep Gurtej Singh have also been awarded Veer Chakra posthumous­ly.

The other brave soldiers whose busts have been installed at the Galwan Victory Wall include Nb Sub Mandeep Singh, Nb Sub Satnam Singh, Hav Sunil Kumar, Hav Bipul Roy, Sep Rajesh Orang, Sep Kundan Kumar Ojha, Sep Ganesh Ram, Sep Chandrakan­t Pradhan, Sep Ankush Thakur, Sep Gurbinder Singh, Sep Chandan Kumar, Sep Kundan Kumar Yadav, Sep Aman Kumar, Sep Jai Kishore Singh and Sep Ganesh Hansda.
