Rain, thunderstorms in west, central UP in next 48 hours: IMD
LUCKNOW : Rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds are expected over several districts of west and central Uttar Pradesh in the next 48 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast issued on Wednesday.
Districts including Moradabad, Bareilly, Amroha, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Barabanki can experience heavy rain. Strong winds with speeds up to 40kmph are also expected, the forecast issued by IMD read.
“The weather changes will be caused by a low pressure area created over the region due to the progression of the monsoon. The low-lying area will attract moist winds from a high pressure zone leading to rain and thunderstorms,” said JP Gupta, director, state MeT department.
Considering the forecast issued by the IMD, the state MeT department has alerted district administrations of the concerned districts. The district administrations have been asked to intimate locals about the change in weather and take measures to minimise losses.
While the change in weather conditions was observed in many districts of east UP even on Wednesday, other parts of the state remained hot and humid. In the state capital, the mercury crossed 36 degrees Celsius mark with high humidity. Temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius were recorded in several places in Prayagraj and Bundelkhand region.
In the coming days, the day temperatures are expected to hover around the 38-degree mark in Lucknow with high humidity.
“The heat will be accompanied by humidity in some regions. Heat waves will also impact daily life in various districts of UP,” said Gupta.
