After EC’s nod, AU to absorb 31 employees of ICC&CE
PRAYAGRAJ : In an emergency meeting called to take a decision regarding the future of the employees of now defunct Allahabad University’s Institute of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education (ICC&CE), the university’s executive council on Monday decided to absorb 31 employees of ICC&CE in accordance with the recommendations made by a panel constituted to look into the issue, said AU officials in the know about development.
However, no decision regarding payment of salary dues to these employees amounting to crores could be taken as the AU lacks adequate funds for it. Also, the UGC as well as the Union education ministry have already denied sanctioning any separate funds in this regard, said university’s PRO Jaya Kapoor.
So, vice chancellor prof Sangita Srivastava set up a committee under dean (arts) prof Heramb Chaturvedi on February 26, 2021. The panel had faculty members, including prof Ashish Saxena, Sonal Sonkar and two other senior professors as members and convenor.
“This panel submitted its report to the VC recently recommending that the 31 employees of ICC&CE who had moved court and got a court order in their favour could be absorbed by the university as the institution lacked the funds to clear their dues,” she said.
Kapoor said after getting the panel’s report, the VC convened an emergency meeting of the EC on Monday where all members unanimously approved this move. All academic activities of the loss-making ICC&CE were stopped following a notification issued by registrar prof NK Shukla on September 6, 2016, on the orders of the then VC prof RL Hangloo.
Since 2016-17 session, no academic activities are being undertaken by this institute. The employees of the institute had been demanding their salary dues and absorption in the university since then.
