Lightning claims over 13 lives in Prayagraj region

PRAYAGRAJ : Over thirteen people, along with some cattle, died from lightning strikes in the Prayagraj region amid heavy rains on Sunday. The officials visited the spots and asked the villagers to take precaution­s in the weather.o

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death of the people in lightning strikes in the Prayagraj and Kaushambi districts.

He issued instructio­ns to officials to provide financial relief to the kin of the dead and provide treatment to those injured.

In the trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj, lightning struck at Bhagesar village of Koraon, killing Pushpendra (11) and Ramraj (12), along with four goats, which they were grazing in the fields.

In nearby Mahuli village, Rammurti Mishra (55) and his buffalo died due to a lightning strike.

Kamta Patel (60) of Bhitaria Kala of Shankargar­h, Tribhuvan (62) of Rukdi village of

Karchhana, Harishchan­dra of Lohgara village of Bara in the trans-Yamuna area also died of lightning strikes, while two women received burns.

A woman, Bela Kali (45) of Tilai Bazar in Soraon, died while four buffaloes were dead in the Nawabganj area of transGanga.

In Prayagraj, 15-year-old Vimlesh Kumar in Rera, Aarti Kumari in Sultanpur village of Soraon, Ranjana in village Dadanpur, Sangeeta in village Kamalpur, Kamala Devi in Chakbahar, Malti Devi and Geeta Devi in Malak Bela also died due to lightning in separate incidents.

In Kaushambi, a 14-year-old boy of Tikri village succumbed following a lightning strike, while three women were injured in the nearby Mulayampur village.

Besides, burns to two youths in the Pratapgarh district was also reported.

It is worth mentioning that in majority of these cases, the victims had either gone to graze goats or were working in the fields when they took shelter under trees due to rains.
