PRAYAGRAJ : Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP)—the apex decision making religious body of 13 recognised Hindu monastic orders of the country—has welcomed and extended its support to the UP’s new population policy launched by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday.

In a statement issued to the media on Monday, ABAP’s president Mahant Narendra Giri also appealed to Muslim religious leaders to accept the proposed law with sincerity and also make the Muslim community aware of the benefits of having fewer children.

Giri expressed his deep concern over the population explosion taking place in the country and demanded that the government should come out with a strict law to control population and the same should be binding on every citizen.

He said rapid population growth in the country and the state was also the reason for many major problems. Therefore, it was very important that the ever-increasing population was stopped immediately.

“The increase in population is directly affecting the quality of education and medical care in the country and the state and on the other hand Muslim religious

leaders are doing nothing to stem this growth. The law on controlling population should be so strict that if a third child is born to any couple, they should not have the right to vote, nor the right to contest elections and their Aadhaar cards should also not get made,” ABAP president said.

Giri also said even in the case of three marriages being allowed in Muslim society, children should still be limited to only two in the entire family. He said the growing population of the country was the biggest problem facing it and so people of all religions should together strive to overcome the challenge.

He said caste and religion should not be brought in the way of population control steps. Rather, considering it as a challenge, everyone should follow the law being brought by CM Yogi Adityanath for population control, he said.
