PRAYAGRAJ : In a breakthrough, Sarai Inayat police of transGanga cracked the sensational murder of a 40-year-old man whose body was found in his rented room at Hanumanganj Bazaar on Tuesday morning.

Police said that a relative of the victim was arrested in connection with the murder who confessed to having committed the crime over illicit relations with his wife.

SP (trans-Ganga) Dhawal Jaiswal said that body of one Raju Harijan (40) was found in his rented room recently. The autopsy report suggested that assailants slashed Raju’s throat and smashed his head with a heavy object. They also severed his private part, police said.

The investigations revealed that Raju was unmarried, and his family lives in the Kydganj area. He used to live on rent at the house of Ved Prakash, police said.As Raju’s phone was also missing from the spot, police pulled out his call detail records and rounded up some suspects.

On Friday, SHO Sarai Inayat Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia and his team detained and questioned one Anil Harijan of the Jhunsi area who confessed to having killed Raju with the help of his brother-in-law Anil Raidas. Anil informed police that Raju was his distant relative and often used to come home, during which he developed illicit relations with his wife. Despite objecting many times, Raju continued meeting his wife that enraged Anil and planned to kill him.

According to their plan, they called Raju on July 17 and reached his house with liquor. When Raju was in an inebriated state, they murdered him brutally. The iron rod used in the murder has also been recovered and efforts were on to arrest Anil Raidas, SP added.
