NGO wants all Azad related documents on display in Sangam city
PRAYAGRAJ : Allahabad Heritage Society— an NGO dedicated to conserving the cultural heritage of Prayagraj and its adjoining areas— has demanded that all original documents related to Azad be brought back to the city and displayed for the public at the Allahabad Museum.
The demand came as the Sangam city, which has witnessed both courage and martyrdom of the freedom fighter Chandrashekar Azad, celebrated his 115th birth anniversary on Friday.
Akshat Lal, head of the NGO said that this would be the most befitting tribute to Chandrashekhar Azad and his martyrdom.
In agreement is Prof Yogeshwar Tewari, former head of the department of Medieval and
Modern History, Allahabad University. “Any official document related to Azad which is lying anywhere in the country must be brought to Prayagraj and handed over to Allahabad Museum, where it should be put on public-display,” he said.
Allahabad Museum has already planned to build a dedicated Azad gallery in honour of the freedom fighter and all documents related to him must be appropriately displayed there, he added. “This way, the youth of this country will get inspiration from exuberant personality of Azad and his contribution to the freedom struggle,” he said.
Among the documents that the NGO wants brought back to the city, include the confidential file of John Nott-Bower, the then superintendent of the British Police Force in Allahabad.
