AU to hold convocation on Sept 23, preparation begins
Name of chief guest, mode of conducting ceremony to be finalised in the coming days
PRAYAGRAJ : With the Allahabad University (AU) announcing that its convocation ceremony will be held on September 23, the foundation day of AU, preparations for the ceremony have begun in earnest.
The decision to finalising the date of holding the convocation was taken at a meeting chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava. The meeting was attended by all deans and heads of the departments and centres of the varsity.
AU’s public relations officer, Jaya Kapoor said, “The list of meritorious students would be prepared by the varsity administration following which we would be having a list of students to be awarded in different categories. Besides, a list of students to be awarded medals named after family members and academicians will also be prepared soon.”
Apart from this, the name of the chief guest for the convocation ceremony would also be finalised in the coming days. However, it is still not decided whether the convocation will be held in an online or offline mode, officials concede.
Besides the issue of holding convocation, the VC also encouraged all the heads of departments to sign MoUs with various national and international institutions.
She said that the university has to be recognised in the global arena at the academic level so that it can reach up to the frontline of educational and research institutions of the country.
For this, the heads of departments were asked to prepare a draft vision plan for the next ten years.
For this, a committee has been constituted, which will work under the direction of the VC. Dean, research and development, Prof SI Rizvi has been asked to propose the names of other members of the said committee.
During the meeting, officials also condoled the demise of the former vice-chancellor of AU Prof CL Khetrapal.
He was the vice-chancellor of AU from 1998 to 2001.
