42 fresh coronavirus cases statewide, one death

LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh reported 42 new Covid-19 cases while one new death was reported on Saturday. “The daily case positivity rate is now 0.01%,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical and health, during a press conference.

About 90% of the genome sequencing results over May,

June and July, suggest that the delta variant is troubling Covid-19 patients in the state.

“We are regularly sending some samples from the positive Covid-19 cases for genome sequencing. Reports from King George’s Medical University, and the CDRI in Lucknow and BHU in Varanasi suggest over 90% are of the delta variant of Covid-19 virus,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical and health in a press conference on Saturday.

In all, 50 districts reported zero Covid-19 cases while the only death reported in the state was from Lakhimpur Kheri, according to state health department data. “The recovery rate in the state is 98.6%,” said Prasad.

“Lucknow has till now reported 2,38,548 Covid-19 cases of which 2,35,811 have recovered and the recovery rate in the state capital is 98.85%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary-general, Association of International Doctors.

The number of active cases under treatment is 932 and about 900 are in home isolation. The maximum 90 active cases are in Kushinagar followed by Lucknow 86.
