Ambulance workers continue strike, CM warns of action

CM said in the last 24 hours only 36 fresh Covid cases were detected while 73 patients recovered from the infection

LUCKNOW : The staff of 108 and 102 ambulance services continued their strike across UP for the second day on Tuesday, resulting in hardships for patients who reached hospitals in autos, taxis and private vehicles. Chief minister Yogi

Adityanath, meanwhile, warned that if the needy don’t get ambulance services in the time of need, the state would take stern action against the ambulance services provider. The two primary ambulance services – 102 (delivery of pregnant women) and 108 (emergency services) had come to a grinding halt since July 25-26 midnight, as workers went on a flash strike in wake of a change in the company that operates the advanced life support system (ALS) ambulances. Meanwhile, patients had to face hardships to reach hospitals in private vehicles.

LUCKNOW : Even as the 108 and 102 services remained affected in UP due to the strike by ambulance staff in support of their employment-related demands, chief minister Yogi Adityanath warned that if the needy don’t get ambulance services in the time of need, the state would act tough against the ambulance services provider.

“The state government is committed to providing quality health services to people. So ensure that needy people get ambulance services. If it doesn’t happen, the state government will act tough against the ambulance services provider,” he said during the Covid-19 review meeting at Lok Bhawan.

Taking about Covid situation in the state, Yogi said in the last 24 hours only 36 fresh Covid cases were detected while 73 patients recovered from the infection.

At present, UP had 798 active cases and the recovery rate was 98.6%. Aligarh, Badaun, Basti, Bahraich, Fatehpur, Hathras, Kasganj, Mahoba and Shravasti were corona free.

Regarding vaccinatio­n, the chief minister said: “Till yesterday, the state had administer­ed 4.52 crore Covid vaccinatio­n doses and the drive must continue smoothly and with speed.”

Talking about preparatio­ns for the possible third wave,

Yogi said UP was fast becoming self-sufficient in oxygen needs.

“Of the total 549 oxygen plants sanctioned in the state, 238 are now active,” the CM added.
