Jeweller shot dead in Karchhana

-

PRAYAGRAJ: A jeweller was shot dead at Bardaha village under Karchhana police station late on Monday night. CCTV footage shows that two miscreants, who came on foot, opened fire on the jeweler with a close range. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified assailants and efforts were on to identify and arrest them, police said.

Police said, Ramraj Soni, 45, who hailed from Handia, had settled at Bardaha village of Karchhana around 12 years back with his wife and two sons Nitin, 13, and Adarsh, 8. Besides, running his jewelry shop, Soni also started construction material buisness.

However, he had to close his construction material business after he was attacked last year by some persons in a scuffle over setting up same business. Now he was running only his jewelry shop.

On Monday night, Soni was sitting outside his home on a cot when two persons opened fire on him with a close range. His family and neighbors rushed outside and found him lying in an injured state with three bullet wounds. Soni was rushed to nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

SP trans-Yamuna Saurabh Dixit reached the scene with heavy force and carried out investigations. CCTV footages showed two masked miscreants running towards the village after gunning down Soni. It is believed that the assailants were hiding in the bushes nearby Soni’s house and opened fire on him when he came out. Police suspect that assailants were given shelter by some persons of the same village.

SP trans-Yamuna Saurabh Dixit said an FIR has been lodged against unidentified assailants. All angles into the case are being probed into and help of available footages were being taken to identify the culprits, he added.
