No Prayagraj teacher makes it to state-level round
PRAYAGRAJ : No teacher from Prayagraj district has been able to make a place in the list of 91 teachers from government primary and upper primary schools shortlisted from across the state for the presentation and interview round of the process for the prestigious National Teacher Award -2021.
Director, Basic Education, UP, Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh had sent this list of teachers along with a letter to all basic shiksha adhikaris (BSAs) on July 25 and no name from Prayagraj figured in it.
However, a teacher Hariom Singh from the neighbouring district of Kaushambi and two teachers from Pratapgarh, including Mohd Farheem and Alok Kumar Singh, besides another two from Fatehpur districts did make it to the presentation and interview round.

Tiwari said at the primary school level, applications of 60 teachers were received and forwarded to the state level committee but none could get shortlisted for the next phase of selection process.
“As per the missive, the shortlisted teachers of the state who had their names in the list from serial number 1 to 60 made their presentations and appeared in the interview by the designated panel members at the state level on July 26 in online mode through Google Meet while the rest did so on July 27,” he said.
“It is sad that no one from among 12,000 government primary school teachers of Prayagraj could make the cut for the presentation and interview round. The applications for the National Teacher Award-2021 were accepted till July 10. However, we are confident that next year the teachers of Prayagraj would perform better,” said a senior basic education department official.
Neelima Srivastava, the State Teacher Award-2019 winner and a teacher at government upper primary school, Jogiya Shiekhpur village, Phulpur, said the last two sessions had been challenging for all teachers due to the pandemic and this could be a reason for none being able to make the cut.
“The selection process is tough as the award attracts large number of applications and even those teachers who have won award for their work at the state level often fail to make to even the final rounds of the National Teacher Award. The non-selection of a teacher from Prayagraj for the next round is not a setback but just a sign that we all need to do even better,” she said.
