SHANKAR PURI APPOINTED MAHANT OF KASHI ANNAPURNA MATH MANDIR

VARANASI: Shankar Puri was appointed Mahant of the Kashi Annapurna Math Mandir on Tuesday. The appointmen­t was made amid traditiona­l rituals in a ceremony which was attended by deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Puri performed Puja of Maa Annapurna and offered special prayers on the occasion.

After taking over as Mahant, Shankar Puri said that according to the tradition of Kashi Annapurna Math Mandir, he would carry forward the work of public welfare. He said that his top priority would be to ensure that Annapurna Math temple always stand together in happiness and sorrow of the people of the society. Moreover, Shankar Puri received a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which the PM expressed grief over the death of former Mahant of Kashi Annapurna Math Mandir, Mahant Rameshwar Puri, who passed away in second week of July.

In the letter, PM Modi said: “Deeply saddened by the demise of Mahant Rameshwar Puri Ji of Kashi Annapurna Temple. My condolence­s to his well-wishers. Mahant Rameshwar Puri Ji’s whole life was dedicated to religion and spirituali­ty. Under his effective leadership, Annapurna Annakshetr­a Trust continuous­ly made efforts for public welfare. He (Mahant Rameshwar Puri Ji) always motivated the people for social works. His passing is irreparabl­e loss to the society. I pray that may god give peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved wellwisher­s to bear the loss in this difficult time.”
