LUCKNOW: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) government had fulfilled the promises made to the people during the 2017 assembly election campaign and the party would achieve a landslide victory in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections to form the government again.

He was speaking after laying the foundation of Uttar Pradesh State Forensic Science Institute in Lucknow. He lauded chief minister Yogi Adityanath over the improved law and order situation in the state and the fight against the Covid pandemic.

There was all-round development of the state and welfare schemes were implemented, he said. In terms of investment in industries and infrastructure, Uttar Pradesh topped in the country, the home minister said.

Between 2013 and 2017, the state of affairs was the worst in UP, he alleged. People were afraid to leave their homes in western UP at that time and there was insecurity among women, he claimed. Land-grabbers captured government land illegally, shootouts in broad daylight were the order of the day

and the state was in the grip of communal violence then, he said.

During the 2017 assembly election, the BJP promised to improve the law and order situation and make UP a developed state, he said.

“In 2021, I can say with pride that under the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, UP is on top in the country in terms of law and order. The BJP government does not run on the basis of caste. It does not work for a family but works for the welfare of the poor people and to improve law and order,” he said.

Stating that UP led the country in implementation of 44 development and welfare schemes launched by the central government, he said people were getting the benefits of the schemes without harassment or paying bribe.

“Uttar Pradesh has moved fast on the path of development in all fields, including industrial investment, successful implementation of schemes, improvement of law and order, waiver of poor farmers’ loan, procurement of agriculture products, deposit of money in farmers’ account, construction of toilets in each house, giving houses to the homeless, cooking gas connection to 1.47 crore women, power connection to the households of poor. Measures have been taken to check corruption and to create fear among those indulging in corrupt practices. In each sector, UP has performed well under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath,” Shah said.

“It’s the result of good work of the BJP government that the size of the UP economy has increased from Rs 11 lakh crore economy to Rs 22 lakh crore within four years,” he said.

Uttar Pradesh coped well during the first and second waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, he said.

The state with a 22-crore population, majority of them residing in the rural areas, had poor health facilities which were inherited from previous government, the home minister said.

The BJP government not only improved health services within a short period, but protected the lives of people as well, he said.

UP topped in vaccination and Covid-19 sample testing, he added.

“When the assembly election is near, a large number of politicians and political parties have become active in UP. During floods, Covid-19 pandemic, death of farmers due to hunger, they were not seen. When the loans of farmers were to be waived, the rival parties’ leaders were enjoying. Now, when the election comes, they remember people,” he said.

“The promises made to the people in 2017 have been fulfilled, we are coming to take their blessings. The BJP will form the government with a huge majority in UP again. Due to bad law and order, the then CM Akhilesh Yadav had to do the Investment Summit in Delhi. Under Yogi, UP has become a developed state,” he said.

He also said the BJP had uprooted nepotism in politics.

“I appeal to the people to see the all-round development and support Modi and Yogi in the coming election to take UP forward,” he said.

The UP State Forensic Science Institute will prove to be a milestone in the modernisation of the police force and improvement of law and order in the country, he said.
