PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj division of North Central Railway (NCR) has started the process of installing 47 automated teller machines (ATMs) at 23 railway stations of the division spread across Uttar Pradesh with the aim of providing ready cash through easy withdrawal to railway passengers.

The officials have already floated the tender and within the next two months, the ATMs would become functional at the railway stations. At present, just seven ATMs are functional in different railway stations under Prayagraj division of NCR, say officials.

Public relations officer, Prayagraj division, Amit Singh said, “The process for installing 47 ATMs at 23 stations has been initiated and soon these stations would be having ATMs for the benefit of the train passengers.”

Among the stations where ATMs would be installed include seven at Prayagraj Junction, 11 at Kanpur Central, four at Subedarganj, two each at Kanpur Anwarganj, Mirzapur, Fatehpur, Etawa and Aligrah among others, the officials said. Besides, ATMs would also be installed at stations like Chunar, Vindhyachal, Prayagraj Choeki, Bamrauli, Hathras, Firozabad, Tundla, Khurja and Dadri etc, they added. “There have been instances when people, coming from different cities, did not have cash despite having money in their bank accounts and many of them used to ask us to take us first to the nearest ATM and only then to their destination,” recalled Rameshwar Singh , an e-rickshaw owner at Prayagraj Junction station.
