MNNIT to offer BTech in engg mechanics and communication
PRAYAGRAJ : Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) will launch a new degree programme in engineering mechanics and communication from 2021-22 academic session.
Being started under the national education policy (NEP)-2020, the course would offer a student an opportunity to opt out of the course after three years of studies with a BTech degree or complete the full fouryear course and earn a BTech with research degree, said MNNIT director prof Rajeev Tripathi.
“The MNNIT Senate, institute’s apex decision-making body for all academic affairs, has granted its approval to the programme,” he added.
Prof Tripathi said the new course, which will have 30 seats, had been tailor-made keeping the needs and demands of the industry in mind. The proposal of the course was put before the academic council in its last meeting after it was first approved by the academic advisory committee as per the set norms.
The proposal would now also be put before the institute’s topmost body, the Board of Governors (BoG), in its next meeting soon before starting the admission process for the new academic session, he added.
To be offered by the applied mechanics department of the institute, it will be the tenth BTech specialisation that would become available at the institute, the director said.
At present, the institute offers BTech in nine different specialisations, including biotechnology, chemical engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, information technology besides production and industrial engineering.
