LUCKNOW : Heavy to very heavy showers were expected across Uttar Pradesh from Monday, according to the forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

“A low pressure zone over North India will lead to showers, expected to begin from Monday. The low pressure area will remain active at least for 48 hours. UP may expect an average of 12mm rainfall during this time frame,” said JP Gupta, director, state MeT department.

“The rains will be accompanied with strong winds and thunderstorms. We have alerted the district administration regarding it,” he added.

Meanwhile, the state recorded scattered showers in over 14 districts on Sunday. The rains were part of the monsoon that resumed in UP almost three weeks ago and brought down average temperatures and humidity. Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius on Sunday while the minimum was at 25 degrees.

The MeT department issued similar weather forecast for Lucknow with possibility of rain on Monday. Rains were reported from western UP districts along with a few places in districts bordering Nepal. As per state management committee data, close to 200 villages across UP had been affected by flooding in major rivers. Most of these districts fall under Moradabad and Gorakhpur divisions.

Lakhimpur was the hottest where the mercury reached 36 degrees during the day. Districts including Prayagraj, Banda and Varanasi also recorded temperatures close to the 36 degrees mark.
