Brokers, not farmers, upset: Yogi Adityanath

-

VARANASI: In an apparent reference to the farmers’ agitation against three new Central agrireform laws, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said people resorting to brokerage in the name of farmers, not the farmers themselves, were upset.

He made the statement in response to a question at the Hindustan Purvanchal Samman Samaroh programme in Varanasi. The leading Hindi daily Hindustan organised the function.

“Several schemes like Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi and Krishi Sinchai Yojana have been brought by the Centre for the farmers. Use of technology is being promoted in agriculture. The people, who do not like these works, are misleading the farmers. People doing brokerage in the name of farmers are upset, not the farmers,” he said.

The chief minister also said, “Farmers were committing suicide before 2017 but, after our government came, the suicides have stopped. After the formation of our government, I found out the reason for the suicides, then came to know that the farmers are not getting the cost of their produce. Purchasing centres were not running. First, the government waived the farmers’ loans. For the first time, work was done to buy (crops) directly from the farmers and transfer the money directly into their accounts.”

Adityanath also said, “We have made payment of the maximum dues of sugarcane farmers. Ramala Sugar Mill was on the verge of closure but our government got a new one installed. The SP-BSP had sold the closed sugar mills. We have done work to run the closed sugar mills.”

Without naming Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, CM Yogi said, “Dhartiputra came and got evicted. He did nothing for the farmers.” Stating that a village should have its own secretariat, he said money could be received only at the common service centre in the village itself. “It is being arranged. Banking sakhis will be appointed and 25,000 have joined. Training is done,” he said.

The CM also said investors from all over the world wanted to invest in UP . “We improved law and order and created an atmosphere for investment in the state. Earlier, there were riots every day. There has been no riot in the state in last fourand-a-half years. .”Commenting on India’s success in the Tokyo Paralympics, he said, “A lot of steps have been taken for promoting sports. As a result, our players have performed well in Paralympics also.”
