PRAYAGRAJ : A total of 1079 schools spread across 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh are in queue for bagging recognition of the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP), commonly known as UP Board, this year. This count is five times higher than last year when the Covid-19 outbreak saw merely 173 schools applying for recognition.

This rise in the number of schools vying for recognition of UP Board is being viewed as a sign that finally the schools buoyed by the fall in Covid-19 cases are hopeful of making a financial recovery from the losses suffered last year, concede state secondary education department officials.

The board, which already has over 28,000 recognised government-run, government-aided

and unaided schools in UP, plans to complete all formalities in this regard at its level by November 30 and then seek the final go-ahead for granting the recognition from the state government, informed officials aware of the development.

These institutions, if granted recognition, would be able to be part of UP Board’s high school and intermediate examinations2024, added a UP Board senior official requesting anonymity.

UP Board secretary Divyakant

Shukla said that online applications from the schools vying for recognition were sought till June 30. “Further process is now underway,” he added.

Since the last academic session, the UP Board has changed the timeline of its recognition granting process.

Till 2019-20 session, the board used to accept applications with late fees till July 31. But this often resulted in quite a delay in the process to get completed and the recognition letters being issued to the schools concerned.

As a result, amending the timeline, the board this time is going to complete all recognition related work by November 30 itself so that the recognition granting letters could also be issued to the schools concerned before April 1, 2022, before the formal start of the new academic session, officials explained.

Now in the next phase, members of a committee head by the district inspector of schools (DIOSs) of different districts would physically inspect the campuses of the applicant schools to verify infrastructure and other resources and submit their reports to the board.

This committee has sub-divisional magistrates of the tehsil concerned besides principals of Government Intermediate Colleges and Government Girls Intermediate Colleges as members.

Once the UP Board finalises the list of schools meeting the set conditions for recognition, it will send the list to the state government and those who bag the state government’s go-ahead would be then issued recognition letters by the board.
