Criminal escapes from police custody in Pratapgarh, nabbed

PRAYAGRAJ : A notorious criminal arrested by police from Mumbai escaped from Raniganj police station lockup in Pratapgarh on Tuesday on the pretext of going to relieve himself. Luckily, the criminal was traced two hours later in a field and was again nabbed.

According to reports, a resident of Ramgarh village in the Antu area, Shubham Mishra was in enmity with some persons. It is alleged that Shubham assaulted his opponents near Dandupur on July 14 and also fired shots and hurled crude bombs to create terror.

Three persons were injured in the incident and an FIR was lodged against Shubham in this connection. However, he fled to Mumbai.

A team of cops under sub-inspector Rajesh Yadav arrested Shubham from Mumbai and brought him to Raniganj police station. On Tuesday afternoon, he asked cops on duty to take him out of lockup so he can relieve himself. However, he ran away as soon as the constable took him to the toilet at the back of the police station. Other cops at the police station ran after him when the constable raised an alarm. However, Shubham could not be found.

Circle Officer Atul Anjan Tripathi launched a massive hunt. Shubham was traced hiding in a field. CO Atul Anjan Tripathi said another FIR is being lodged against him.

Five-year-old dies in road mishap

In a tragic incident, a 5-year-old boy was run over by a speeding truck at the Hathigan area under Ghoorpur police station of the trans-Yamuna region of the district on Tuesday. The enraged kin of the boy and locals blocked the road in protest. Later, SDM Vinod Kumar Pandey reached the spot and pacified the enraged villagers.
