PRAYAGRAJ: The ‘one stop Sakhi centre’ started by Prayagraj police about a month back has been able to reunite 15 couples who were on the verge of separation.

The centre started on the instructions of IG Range KP Singh is being run at Asha Jyoti Kendra with the help of district probationary officer Pankaj Mishra.

Mishra said police mediation centre and one stop centre were now working together since a month and provide proper counseling to women, medical attention, if needed, and information about various government schemes like widow pension, etc.

He added “In August, 76 complaints were received. The couples were called for counseling and following our efforts, 15 couples who were on verge of separation are now united once again.”

The couples were honoured by police officials at police lines by SP trans-Yamuna Saurabh Dixit on Wednesday where they were also urged to sort out minor issues on their own without intervention of others and avoid communication gap between them.

A woman, who was turned out by her in-laws after she delivered a baby girl, spoke about her experience.

“About 11 days after my delivery, I was sent back to my parent’s home. I tried all means of compromise for two years and then approached SP trans-Yamuna Saurabh Dixit. I was sent to one stop sakhi centre where my husband was also called,” she said.

She further said “Because of counseling by experts at the centre, my husband has now accepted me and my daughter again. We have also agreed on other terms and decided to live together now.”

Fourteen other couples also shared their experiences at their event.

Mishra said there were many reasons that created gaps between couples and proper counseling helps in mitigating these issues.
