GORAKHPUR: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday attacked the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress, stating that the appeasement politics, which existed in the country under non-BJP governments, had been replaced by the politics of development under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule.

He also said benefits of development were now reaching every section of the society without any discrimination on the basis of religion or caste. Yogi Adityanath was in Kushinagar district of eastern Uttar Pradesh to gift development projects worth Rs 421 crore.

“As long as appeasement existed, the country faced serious problems like terror, riots, corruption, anarchy and injustice. But today development exists and sabka sath sabka vikas is ensured. Today, the caste of a poor beneficiary is not asked,” he said.

“Have you all got ration? (the crowd replied yes.) Before 2017, the ration for the poor was digested by those who used to say Abba Jaan,” the chief minister said in an apparent reference to appeasement politics.

“Earlier, Kushinagar’s ration used to go to Nepal and Bangladesh . But today those who dare to think of digesting the ration of the poor would not able to do so. They will land in jail for sure,” he added.

Recalling an incident dating back to 2016, the chief minister told the crowd that a man from the vulnerable Mushar community died due to hunger in Kushinagar district. But after the formation of his government in state, not even a single death due to hunger had been reported, he said.

The chief minister also said his government successfully managed the Covid-19 crisis, stating that they were just 14 new infection cases at present in the state with a population of

24 crore. On the other hand, non-BJP ruled states with a population less then UP, including Maharashtra , Delhi and Kerala, failed to control the situation, arguably for not following the Covid-19 management rules framed by the Centre, he said. He appealed to the people to get vaccinated for protection from the Sars-Cov-2 virus that causes the Covid-19 disease.

“We have put the genie of corona back in the bottle,” he said amid applause from the crowd.

He announced that a medical college named after Lord Buddha would be set up in Kushinagar district. Kushinagar airport will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October, he added.

“Even those who wear Hawai chappals (slippers) will be able to travel in planes,” he said.

He further said the Congress would meet its worst fate in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly election.
