Girl student’s death: SIT reaches Mainpuri, begins investigat­ion

KANPUR : The Special Investigat­ion Team headed by ADG Kanpur zone Bhanu Bhaskar to investigat­e the death of a girl student reached Mainpuri on Saturday and formally started probe. The Mainpuri police handed over all the case-related documents to the SIT. ADG Bhaskar would camp in Mainpuri till the investigat­ions were over, said police officials aware of the details. This second SIT was formed following the tough stance the Allahabad high court adopted on the issue.

KANPUR: The Special Investigat­ion Team headed by ADG Kanpur zone Bhanu Bhaskar to investigat­e the death of a girl student reached Mainpuri on Saturday and formally started investigat­ions.

The Mainpuri police handed over all the case-related documents to the SIT. ADG Bhaskar would camp in Mainpuri till the investigat­ions were over, said police officials aware of the details.

This second SIT was formed following the tough stance the Allahabad high court adopted on the issue .

The investigat­ion of the first three-member SIT had remained inconclusi­ve.

The SIT would first visit the Navodaya Vidyalaya where the girl student was found dead. This would be followed by a visit to the Bhogaon police station where it would examine the investigat­ion that had taken place so far, post mortem report, DNA report and forensic findings, including the polygraph tests conducted in the case.

All the police officers who have been associated with the investigat­ions have been asked to remain in Mainpuri. They would appear before the SIT and present their version.

The Uttar Pradesh government has already suspended three police officers after the high court’s observatio­n in the case.

While Bhaskar heads the SIT, IG ATS GK Goswami, IG Kanpur rnge Mohit Agarwal, SP Mainpuri Ashok A Kumar, additional SP Special Task Force Rakesh Yadav and deputy SP Kanpur Dehat Tanu Upadhyaya are the members.

The SIT has a 30-day deadline to complete the investigat­ion and submit its report to the DGP. Before this, a three-member SIT headed by IG Kanpur range Mohit Agarwal had conducted investigat­ion but it remained inconclusi­ve.

On Friday night, DGP Mukul Goel spoke to the SIT chief and other senior members who were briefed about the case. Goel asked for comprehens­ive investigat­ion and instructed for weekly review of the progress, said sources.
