LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, whose government completed four-and-a-half years in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, said people would remember this period for good governance and security.

The mafia and criminals flourished under the previous government, he said at a press conference here, adding that gangsters had created fear and lawlessness in the state. While communal violence was the order of the day before the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, no communal riots occurred in UP during the last four-and-a-halfyears of BJP rule, he said. Gangsters, irrespective of their caste, community or religion, were dealt with an iron hand, he said.

Illegal property of mafia gangs worth over Rs 1800 crore was confiscated and illegal structures raised by the gangsters demolished, he said.

“The scenario in UP has changed with the new model of governance and security. UP attracted a large amount of investment after creating a secure environment. In 2018, the first investors’ summit was organised in UP, today businessmen and industrialists from across the world are eager to invest in UP. The state has made a big jump in the ease of doing business from 14th to second position. The state has attracted investment worth Rs 3 lakh crore,” he said.

The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh was working for all the classes and communities without any discrimination, he said.

Asserting that UP was moving in a new direction under the BJP government, he said the safety of women and girls was among the top priorities of the state government. In 2017, the state government constituted anti-Romeo squads to provide security to girls. Under Mission Shakti, a statewide mass awareness programme was organised. In the second phase, women pink booths were set up in each police station. In the third phase, a designated chamber for women was being set up in each panchayat secretariat, he said.

All issues associated with women will be dealt with by women police officials, he said. The officials will ensure that women get benefits of all the schemes launched by the state government, he added.

Alleging that farmers were denied the benefits of the minimum support price (MSP) under the BSP and SP governments, Adityanath said the previous governments procured paddy and wheat through middlemen whereas the BJP government is procuring agriculture products directly from farmers and money is being credited into their accounts.

The previous governments that were in power from 2007-17 paid Rs 95,000 crore to the sugarcane farmers whereas the BJP government disbursed

Rs 1.43 crore to the farmers from 2017 to September 2021, the chief minister said.

“While the sugar mills were sold at throwaway prices in previous regimes and several sugar mills were closed, my government started the closed sugar mills and set up new ones.

The BJP government has ensured that famers get the sugarcane payment on schedule.

During the Covid lockdown, when half the sugar mills across the country were closed, the Bharatiya Janata Party government ensured that sugar mills in UP continued to run. My government is working for the welfare of the farmers,” he said.

Earlier, there was competition between chief ministers to construct houses for themselves and government houses were razed to build grand bungalows for the CMs, Yogi Adityanath alleged.

On the other hand, the BJP government constructed houses for 42 lakh poor people in UP and worked for the welfare of common people, farmers, traders, youths, labourers and women, he said.

The aim of the Bharatiya Janata Party government was to fulfill the promises made to the people in the Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra, he said.

The masses were connected with the government’s welfare and development schemes that have given Uttar Pradesh a new identity, he said.

Recruitment in government services was transparent and 4.50 lakh youths were given employment.

There was no discrimination in recruitment. Jobs have been given on the basis of merit and reservation rules have been followed too, he said.

From 20007- 2017, successive state governments ran a transfer and posting industry but the Bharatiya Janata Party government provided stability in the administration by checking the transfer and posting business, he said.

In 2016-17, Uttar Pradesh was the third largest economy in the country, while today the state was the second- largest economy, he said.

“Several infrastructure projects have been implemented, including connecting the district headquarters with fourlane roads, besides construction of the Purvanchal Expressway and Bundelkhand in the backward regions of the state. The Ganga Expressway will connect western UP with the eastern region of the state,” he said.

Metro is being run in four cities and the service will begin in Kanpur and Agra in November-December, he said.

“Air connectivity in the state has improved. Before 2017, there were two airports in the state but today eight airports are functional.

Five international and 10 domestic airports are coming up. Uttar Pradesh has made a remarkable achievement in education.

The National Education Policy will be implemented in 2022. The state government is setting up seven new universitie

Stating that Uttar Pradesh’s Covid management model was lauded in the country as well as well worldwide, he said the state’s positivity rate, fatality rate and active Covid cases were lowest in the country. Uttar Pradesh tops in the country in conducting sample tests and administering Covid vaccine doses.

“Schools and colleges have reopened, the economic activities have started. Industrial units remained active during the second wave,” he said.
