Trying to change country’s export scenario with help of state govts: Anupriya Patel
Many steps taken to reach $400 billion export target in FY2021-22, says minister
VARANASI : Union minister of state for commerce and industry, Anupriya Patel, on Sunday said that her ministry in association with the state governments was trying to change export scenario of the country in order to take India’s export to $2 trillion by 2027. She also stressed on making India a country of terrific export development and reaching the $400 bn export target in 2021-22.
Patel was addressing stakeholders, including farmers and exporters, in Vanijya Utsav, an export conclave, organised in Varanasi by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Union minister said that by holding meetings with exporters, farmers and producers, she was trying to remove their problems and thus changing the export scenario in the country.
“The entire world has been facing global pandemic for the last two years. We also faced the horrible second wave of Covid-19 few months ago. But we didn’t kneel down before this. We faced and it inspired us for Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This pandemic taught us many things like how to find opportunity in crisis, and we found opportunity in the crisis. But now we have to move from ‘opportunity to prosperity’ to ‘opportunity to prosperity’,” Patel said.
She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stated that export from the country should reach $400 billion in FY2021-22. “My ministry has taken a number of steps to give a boost to export to achieve the target and realize the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” she added. She said, “I am pleased to inform you that our export has increased even during the pandemic. The first five months of FY 2021 recorded $164 bn export against $98.6 bn in the last FY. We have all abilities required for promoting export.”
She said there is a target to increase export from the country to $2 trillion by 2027-28. This will include export worth 1 trillion each from merchandise sector and service sector.
She said, “Our goal is that export potential products should be identified and capacity building of the craftsmen and farmers should be done to promote export which is being done by the APEDA.”
She congratulated the UP government for taking crucial steps in supporting products like silk, Gulabi Minakari, brocade, wooden toys and handmade durries, carpets and letting the global market know the potential of the country’s heritage.
“I’m glad that these have been preserved through GI tags. Mirzapur carpets and durries are famous worldwide for their unique geometrical patterns and curvilinear motifs. These account for 50% of the district’s export. I am sure we can push our boundaries to reach 1000 crore this fiscal year,” she said. Patel said that Prime Minister Modi gifted a chess set, made using Gulabi Minakari, to USA’s vice president Kamla Harris. Soon after that the gulabi menagerie drew global attention.
