AU begins teachers’ recruitment process to fill 596 vacant posts
PRAYAGRAJ : Allahabad University (AU) has finally started the much-awaited recruitment process to fill up vacant posts of teachers.
Having issued an advertisement for recruiting teachers against 596 vacant posts in the central varsity, the university has started accepting online applications for these posts with effect from September 28, informed AU PRO Jaya Kapoor.
Candidates need to apply through the official website of AU— www.allduniv.ac.in. The last date for applying is October 27, 2021, she added.
As per the detailed advertisement made available on the university’s website, applicants can apply for 356 vacant posts of assistant professors in 47 different subjects ranging from ancient history English, electronic and communication to nano-science and technology, 170 vacant posts of associate professors in 40 subjects ranging from commerce and business administration, environmental studies and psychology besides 70 vacant posts of professors in 36 subjects including Urdu, economics, defence studies to Law.
The recruitments will be held based on direct interviews of the eligible shortlisted candidates by the selection committees, said AU officials.
Mere eligibility will not entitle any candidate to be called for an interview. The shortlisting of the candidates to be called for an interview will be done strictly based on academic/research scores obtained and subject to fulfilling all the essential eligibility criteria as mentioned in the UGC Regulations, 2018, AU officials added.
Reeling under an acute shortage of teachers, AU for the past many years has been looking forward to filling up the vacant posts. AU vice-chancellor, Prof Sangita Srivastava had blamed the shortage of regular teachers as the main reason for the poor showing of the institution in the recently released National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings-2021 issued by the Union Ministry of Education. The varsity had failed to secure a rank. The first-ever woman vicechancellor of this 134-year-old varsity, Srivastava took charge on December 1, 2020, and had made it clear that filling up vacant posts of teachers would be one of her top priorities as the shortage is upsetting the varsity’s teacher-taught ratio.
Earlier, AU had recruited teachers in 2010, 2012 and 2018 but the numbers were small compared to the number of vacant posts of teachers. In 2019, when the AU administration was processing the applications for teaching positions, the then ministry of HRD (now Union Ministry of Education) had sent a letter to AU authorities asking them to put the ongoing teaching recruitment process in abeyance.
