WORRIED OVER RESENTMENT AMONG FARMERS, BJP TO HOLD ‘CHAUPALS’
RUDRAPUR: The BJP Kisan Morcha will hold “chaupals” or village square meetings in rural areas across the state to counter resentment and disinformation campaign among farmers due to the farmer agitation ahead of next year’s state polls.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the state executive body of Kisan Morcha held in Rudrapur last week.
“We have decided to hold Chaupals in villages across the state to counter farmers’ agitation. Sanyukt Kisan Morcha is spreading rumours about the three new farm laws and misleading farmers.
“We will make farmers aware of the benefits of new farm laws,” said Anil Chauhan, state president of Kisan Morcha.
A meeting of the executive body was held in Rudrapur and in the meeting office bearers expressed concern over the farmers’ agitation and chalked out the plan to counter the agitation.
It was said in the meeting that farmers’ agitation is entirely politically motivated and it can be countered only by outreaching farmers in the rural areas.
“Farmers’ agitation is politically motivated and has nothing to do with the interest of farmers. Agitation and sit-in at Gazipur border are fading now. A large number of actual farmers have left the protest and antiModi activists are stretching the agitation. Only farmers of plain areas in the state are participating in the agitation,” said Chauhan.
Morcha will start Chaupals from October 15 and duties of the holding Chaupals will be assigned to district level workers. They will visit village to village and will interact with farmers and will try to remove their apprehensions.
Chauhan said party workers for Chaupals have been identified and hope farmers will understand the actual motive of the agitation.
Farmers are protesting against the three farm laws they say threaten their livelihoods.
