PRAYAGRAJ: Civil Services (Preliminary) Exams-2021 would be conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in two shifts on October 10, from 9.30am to 11.30 am followed by 2.30pm to 4.30pm. The exam would be conducted at 93 centres in Prayagraj, for 39,397 candidates who have registered for it, informed district administration officials.

The UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam-2021 was previously scheduled to be held on June 27, 2021 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 situation in the country, they added.

District magistrate Sanjay Khatri, who reviewed the preparations for conducting the coveted exam in Prayagraj at a meeting with officials held at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) on Tuesday, informed that a total of 33 sector magistrates would be deputed for the smooth conduct of the exam, besides one magistrate at each examination centre.

“Centres having up to 400 candidates each would have one assistant supervisor while those having more than 400 candidates would each have two assistant supervisors. For the UPSC exam, five IAS officers would also be acting as observers, including the excise commissioner, chief development officer, municipal commissioner, vice-chairman of Prayagraj development authority and a member of the Board of Revenue,” he added.

ADM (city) Madan Kumar said all preparations for conducting the examination are complete.

Nearly 10 lakh candidates register every year for the UPSC Civil Services (Prelims) examinations—the first step to becoming an IAS officer in the country.

The number of vacancies to be filled through the examination this time is around 712 (UPSC has however made it clear that the final number of vacancies may change) which include 22 vacancies reserved for persons with benchmark disability category, ie 5 vacancies for candidates of blindness and low vision; 6 vacancies for deaf and hard of hearing; 6 vacancies for locomotor disability, including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; and 5 vacancies for multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness.
