VARANASI: The Bharatiya Janta Party Kisan Morcha has decided to hold a series of meetings (Kisan chaupals) with farmers in rural areas of Varanasi from October 16 to October 31 to strengthen its bond with them as well as feel the pulse of the farming community in view of the upcoming state assembly elections.

Kashi region BJP Kisan Morcha general secretary Jainath Misha said, “A series of meetings will be held in rural pockets of Varanasi district and adjoining areas for about a fortnight from October 16. The centre and the state have started a number of schemes to double the income of the farmers. We will tell them about these schemes during the meetings.”

Mishra said chief minister Yogi Adityanath waived farm loans worth over Rs 36359 crore of 86 lakh farmers of the state.

“The electricity surcharge was also waived off by the state government. Agriculture budget was increased around five times and schemes like Atmanirbahar Krishak Samanvit Vikas Yojna were introduced to achieve the goal of doubling farmers’ income,” he said.

Mishra said that uninterrupted electricity supply was being given to the farmers and innovation in agriculture being promoted.

He said farmers were being motivated to take up cultivation of the crops which are more profitable to them. “Pradhan Mantri Sinchai Yojana has been launched in UP successfully and irrigation to every field has been ensured. Several such schemes have been launched for the farmers,” he said.

In the meetings, all these schemes will be discussed in detail with the farmers. Problems facing the farmers will also shared with the party workers.

Mishra said the BJP government was true well-wisher of the farmers, while the opposition parties did nothing for increasing their incomes of the farmers.

Varanasi City unit BJP Kisan Morcha vice president Yogesh Singh Pinku said, “We will hold first kisan chaupal at Sultanpur village in Ramnagar area of the district. In the meeting, we will interact with farmers and inform them about the schemes started by the government at the centre and the state to give a boost to agriculture sector and innovative farming. Chaupal will be held in every gram panchayat.”
