Entrance exams kickstart admission process

PRAYAGRAJ: Entrance examinatio­ns of Allahabad University (AU) and its constituen­t colleges for admission in undergradu­ate and postgradua­te courses for academic session 2021-22 commenced on Wednesday.

In the first shift from 9:30 am to 11:40 am, the admission tests for BSc Maths and Bio, MSc Agricultur­al Science (Agricultur­al Zoology and Entomology) courses were held, while entrance tests for MTech and MSc were conducted in the evening shift, informed a varsity official.

The examinatio­ns are being conducted in offline mode at the 26 centres in nine cities, and through online mode at 44 centres in 16 cities across the country. Of these, 13 offline and 14 online centres have been set up in Prayagraj, they added.

Regarding the admission tests held in two shifts on Wednesday, director (admissions) Prof IR Siddiqui informed that entrance exam for MSc agricultur­al science, MTech, Master in Fine Arts, MSc in textile and apparel designing, MSc in Biochemist­ry and MSc in material science were held.

The entrance exam, for these courses, was held in online mode in which a total of 5860 candidates were registered but only 4,717 appeared for the exam.

The entrance test for BSc was also held in the first shift in offline mode in which 11,553 candidates were registered, but 10,133 appeared.

Out of 17,413 registered candidates for the entrance test held in the first shift, 14,850 appeared amounting to around 85%.

The entrance exam for BCom and BSc home science along with MSc, Masters in Physical Education, MSc in environmen­tal science, MSc in design and innovation in rural technology, MA in women’s studies and Masters in developmen­t studies were held in the second shift. Entrance tests for these courses were held in an online mode in which out of 2,450 registered candidates, 2086 appeared.

Likewise, the entrance test for BCom and BSc home science was also held in the second shift in offline mode for which 6085 candidates were registered, but only 5499 candidates appeared.

In total, 8535 candidates were registered for the entrance test held in the second shift, out of which 7585 (around 89%) appeared, said director (admissions), AU.
