Property dealer dies as illegal gun goes off in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: A 25-year-old property dealer succumbed to gunshot injuries received accidently at his house during a party at Sachha Baba Nagar in Arail under Naini police station on Wednesday morning. The youth’s friend was showing him how to handle a firearm when it went off resulting in his death, police said.

On Wednesday morning, Abhilash Pandey was in his home with his friends when his kin heard a gunshot. They rushed to his room and found him on the floor with a bullet injury to his chest. He was rushed to SRN Hospital where he died during treatment.

Superinten­dent of police (SP), trans-Yamuna, Saurabh Dixit and other senior officials reached the spot and carried out investigat­ions and questioned those present on the spot. The SP said primary investigat­ions revealed that Abhilash was in his house with his friends when one Vivek Tiwari of same area took out an illegal pistol and was showing others how to handle it when it went off. Abhilash was shot in the chest and collapsed.

“Eyewitness­es are being thoroughly questioned and an FIR will be lodged on the basis of a complaint received by the youth’s kin,” he added.

Rs 8.25 lakh looted from liquor godown cashier

Unidentifi­ed miscreants looted Rs 8.25 lakh in cash from the cashier of a liquor godown at Belha Devi Bridge in Pratapgarh district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the liquor godown of Ponty Chaddha Group is located at Mahuli in Chilbila area where Anil Mishra works as cashier.

On Wednesday, Mishra was going to deposit the Rs 8.25 lakh in the bank along with security guard Surya Narayan Pandey.

The cash was kept in the bike driven by Mishra. As soon as the duo reached near Belha Devi Bridge, around half a dozen miscreants waylaid them. They pushed Anil Mishra and the guard, and took away the bike with them.

They soon informed the police about the incident.

Circle officer Abhay Pandey reached the spot and questioned the locals in connection with the incident.

Pandey said that closed circuit TV footage in the vicinity was being scanned to identify the miscreants.
