Sparklers only at designated spots, with riders

PRAYAGRAJ: The district administration has allowed permission for firecracker markets with a rider that crackers would sold only at designated spots and with full safety precautions.
Fire department officials have inspected the cracker markets and are keeping close watch there, officials said.
On Sunday chief fire officer RK Pandey met the big firecracker traders of the city and informed them about the guidelines that are to be followed strictly at the designated markets to ensure safety.
Pandey said as per guidelines issued, the distance between two cracker shops will be minimum of three metres. Use of oil and gas lamps for lighting has been prohibited and premises where firecrackers will be put on sale will be a no smoking zone, he added.
The parking of bikes and four wheelers will be away from the firecracker market and will be parked at a minimum distance of 15 meters as sometimes silencers of vehicles may throw sparks which may pose a threat.
All firecracker shops will have to place water drum of 200 litres . The traders will also have to keep fire extinguisher, four buckets and sand outside their shops to contain fire immediately in case of an emergency. Every shop has to display board with emergency numbers, 101,122 along with helpline 9454418558.
It is worth mentioning that Anglo Bengali College will be biggest firecracker market while Lukarganj ground and some other places in the city have also been assigned for sale of firecrackers. The officials inspected the stock of firecrackers to check if only green firecrackers are on sale. However, they found no illegal and banned crackers.
Police is also keeping eye on sale and stock of illegal and banned firecrackers which pose serious threat to health of people and are harmful for environment.
