Owaisi’s party plans to contest ‘22 polls in U’khand
HARIDWAR: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of Asaduddin Owaisi is considering to contest the 2022 assembly election in some minority dominated areas of the state.
The AIMIM state unit recently submitted a survey report to party national president Owaisi in which it has claimed that the party has good electoral prospects in three plain districts -- Haridwar, US Nagar and Dehradun.
The report submitted by party state unit president Nayyar Kazmi cited 22 assembly segments in which party could perform better.
Kazmi said Owaisi has huge fan following among youth in the state and the same was evident during his visit to Haridwar on Wednesday when hundreds queued up to have a glimpse of him.
“We have identified 22 seats where AIMIM can perform better and even win a seat or two. We are the lone party catering to the minority as well as neglected segments so we stand a good chance if party president decides to field party candidates in 2022,” said Kazmi.
“We are now waiting for the party high command’s decision and in the meantime, we have started strengthening the party in the state,” he said.
Political analyst SMA Kazmi said in recent times, the minority community has been pragmatic about whom it should vote.
“To contest election for the first time and win seems a herculean task. But, they can start with fielding candidates and gradually strengthening the party here...”
