PRAYAGRAJ : A kite string claimed another life on New Yamuna Bridge on Sunday evening. A youth’s throat was slashed after he came in contact with the sharp string while his wife was injured when their bike fell. The youth was rushed to SRN hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Around six months back, an employee of a juvenile shelter lost his life on New Yamuna Bridge after he came in contact with Chinese kite string.

According to reports, a resident of Koraon area, Afroz Ansari, 28, and his wife Khursheeda had gone to visit a doctor in Alopibagh.

The duo was returning home on their bike accompanied by Afroz’s brother-in-law Murad Ali on another motorcycle.

On New Yamuna Bridge, Afroz came in contact with a Chinese kite string, which slashed his neck.

Afroz lost control on the bike and he and his wife fell on the road. The sharp string made a deep cut in Afroz’s throat despite his attempts to remove it.

Murad Ali, who was behind them, immediately came to their rescue with the help of other commuters. SHO Kydganj Ramesh Chaubey said Afroz was taken to SRN hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

The body was handed over to the kin as they refused autopsy. The kin of Afroz had not given any complaint to the police in this connection, SHO added.

Murad Ali informed that Afroz was the elder among two brothers and used to work in Mumbai. He was married only six months back, he added.

It is worth mentioning that Chinese kite string has claimed many lives and injured dozens in Prayagraj during the past few years. Police launched many drives to stop use of Chinese kite string but it is still bring sold illegally at kite shops.
